revenge of by the numbers
is a Counter-Strike esports focused podcast hosted by Richard Lewis and Duncan ‘Thorin’ Shields.
This is the third iteration of the podcast, starting with a podcast sponsored by Alphadraft called ‘By The Numbers’ that ran for 40 episodes in 2015 and 2016.
Following this, the hosts relaunched the podcast under the name ‘Return of By The Numbers’.
This iteration ran for 192 weekly episodes over many years, until it was relaunched for a third time.
This time to be called ‘Revenge of By The Numbers’ and I was asked to create the intro sequence and branding.
The brief I got for this project was very simple:
Use the colors black and red
Include some elements of Counter-Strike esports
Maybe use something ninja related because of the word ‘Revenge’
STYLE FRAMES
ILLUSTRATION
The portraits and the pistol sequence both include vector illustrations I created for this project.
The pistol sequence is achieved by quickly cutting in between several illustrations, giving the illusion of movement without having to create a full poseable hand rig.
THE NUMBERS
To reinforce the theme of ‘numbers’ in the branding for this podcast I included several number elements visually throughout the animation. Additionally, in the selection of the sound clips used in the background I attempted to select moments that include either the mention of numbers or include the casters counting.
